Debate in the UK Parliament over reparative therapy

February 11, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Gay Politics, Homosexuality Causation, Sexual Orientation Change Efforts

February 1, 2013

On January 30, 2013 advocates on both sides of the debate over reparative therapy presented their positions in Committee Room 11, Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. Christian Concern reported that those opposing reparative therapy argued that the nature of homosexuality was innate. Disputing the innate view of sexual orientation was Dr Berger, Consultant Psychiatrist and practitioner of the therapy, of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Canada. Christian Concern interviewed representatives on both sides of the debate and posted their responses in a YouTube video.

Ex-gay Greg Quinlan urges Boy Scouts to continue prohibiting homosexuals as Scout leaders

Excerpt of Greg Quinlan’s letter to the Boy Scout board of directors: “As a former homosexual who was sexually molested as a child, I urge the Boy Scouts of America to reinforce their policy prohibiting homosexuals as Scout leaders entrusted with the care of impressionable young boys and teens.”

“Boy Scouts leaders are exactly that – leaders. Boys watch them very closely. … A homosexual who gently eases boys and young men into exposure of homosexuality by his own personal example promotes homosexual behavior as normal, natural and healthy. This paves the way for youth to question their own sexuality and be affirmed into homosexuality. Promoting homosexuality to youth is also a political ploy to further homosexual approval.”

FCDF Vigorously Defending Landmark JONAH Case

January 29, 2013

Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund news release: “This week FCDF is delivering to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) copies of dozens of studies and articles, and references to hundreds of others, that categorically prove that people can and do change their sexual orientations and desires. Indeed several of the articles and studies were written by homosexual researchers and activists who claim that sexual orientation is fluid and flexible. One of the organizations that promotes the idea that sexual orientation is fluid and flexible is the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN). Ironically, GLSEN is an SPLC ally in promoting the radical homosexual agenda in the schools. Thus, it is anticipated that SPLC’s ill-conceived, politically motivated, lawsuit will backfire badly, and that its false accusations will be exposed and defeated.” Read the rest of this entry →

Ex-gay Christopher Doyle gives his testimony and argues against bans on sexual orientation therapy

Excerpt of Christopher Doyle’s article in the Christian Post: “When I was eight years old, I was sexually abused every week for an entire year. This created a lot of sexual confusion for me. When I became a teenager, I struggled with unwanted same-sex attraction (SSA) as a result of that abuse. …”

“Today, I am a professional counselor that helps young men struggling with their own sexuality. Every week, I get calls from mothers and fathers who are concerned about their teenagers’ homosexual feelings. I have worked with many of these teens in therapy (as young as 13) to help them understand and resolve their unwanted SSA. My hope is for these young people to work through their issues now so they don’t have to deal with the pain and heartache when they are older, like I had to do.”

Peter Saunders responds to UK doctors suggesting vaccines for gay men

Excerpts from Peter Saunders on his Christian Medical Comment blog: “The BMA has called for the HPV immunisation programme to be widened to include gay men, in an effort to tackle ‘alarming’ rates of HPV-related disease. … What the Pulse article [original source] doesn’t do is to enlarge on the little-known link between anal intercourse, HPV and anal cancer. Here are some facts. Anal cancer is rare in the general population but its incidence is on the rise for homosexual men. In the United Kingdom, about 1,100 people are diagnosed with anal cancer each year. The survival prospects depend very much on the stage at diagnosis but overall 25-40% of people diagnosed with anal cancer will die within five years.”

Dr. Nicolosi discusses how therapists can help SSA client’s diminish the power of porn

February 11, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Clinical Science, Sexual Orientation Change Efforts

January 19, 2013

Excerpt from Dr. Nicolosi’s essay on the NARTH website: “The easy availability of pornography and consequent addiction to it has reached epidemic proportions that the media continues to ignore. For the man with SSA, gay porn becomes a particular problem because of the natural but frustrated desires it presents.”
.
“As I work with SSA men, it becomes apparent to them that its attraction often lies in its seeming fulfillment of three emotional drives: (1) Body Envy, (2) Assertive Attitude and (3) Need for Vulnerable Sharing. This picture does not fit every SSA man (as I always tell my clients, “If what I say does not ring true to you, then we will approach this issue differently), but it does fit many men’s inner experience. …”

Petition to Support the Human Right of Self-Determination for Individuals with Unwanted Same-Sex Attraction (SSA) to Receive Counseling and Psychological Treatment

January 13, 2013

The International Healing Foundation has initiated a petition calling for governments to stop attempts at discriminating against the rights of those with unwanted homosexual attractions to have professionals help them try to change their homosexual attractions (sexual orientation change efforts). Currently, California is seeking to make it illegal for minors to receive help to change their homosexual attractions. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are considering similar bans. The petition can be linked at http://www.comingoutloved.com/sign-the-petition.

Workbook available for young men with unwanted homosexuality

January 8, 2013

Floyd Godfrey, a licensed professional counselor who struggled with same sex attractions as a young man, has created a workbook for young men struggling with the same attractions he struggled with. Information on the back of the book reads: “This workbook is written for young men who want to understand the emotional needs and wounds which generate homosexual feelings. It provides insight and understanding in a simple format. It can be used for parents, clergy, and counselors as a format for supporting young men who want to change. Goals and healing activities can be established from concepts in each chapter. Thousands have experienced change. ‘Born that way’ is a myth.”

Ex-gay Alan Medinger writes about emotional longing in men

February 11, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Homosexuality Causation, Religious Perspective, Sexual Orientation Change Efforts

January 8, 2013

Article by Alan Medinger copied from the PFOX website: “We have long recognized that the homosexual drive is not, at its root, sexual. The drive gains its direction and power from certain things inside a person, in many cases unmet needs or fears. Not always, but most often, in men it is an unmet need or a deficit, and in women, it is a fear.”

This article will deal solely with male homosexuality because I am going to discuss an unmet need that comes out of deficit in a boy’s relationship with his father. To be clear, women dealing with same sex attractions (SSA) can have father deficits too, and so true healing for them may at some point require them to see men as protectors (a fatherly role). But the dynamics of these father deficits are quite different, so I will focus on men with SSA. Read the rest of this entry →

Dr. Neil Whitehead analyzes epigenetics causation theory

February 11, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Clinical Science, Homosexuality Causation

January 3, 2013

Excerpt from Dr. Whitehead’s article on mygenes.com: “…There have been numerous attempts within at least 13 different research fields to show a strong biological basis to homosexuality and all have failed. This new field – epigenetics – will probably join them. The authors make a good case that epigenetics should be included in the mix of factors contributing to homosexuality. I agree, but believe it will prove to be a minor contributor only, along with many other minor contributors.”

“Epigenetics is control of genetic expression by factors other than the genes. These factors may be pre-natal or post-natal (occurring at any time of life), often coming from the exterior environment, both biological and social. Epigenetic marks (changes in protein configurations around the DNA) can also be passed on to descendants – but only to some extent.”
