Excerpt from the Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH): “December 19, 2012 — The Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund (FCDF) announced today that it has accepted the role of lead defense counsel for Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing(JONAH) in a precedent-setting lawsuit. FCDF is a national public interest law firm that represents people whose freedom of conscience has come under attack. JONAH is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that offers assistance to men and women seeking to resolve their sexual conflicts, including unwanted same sex attractions. JONAH has been unjustly sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) who claims that homosexuality is permanently fixed and that people cannot be helped in overcoming their unwanted same-sex attractions. …”

Ex-gay and reparative therapist David Pickup was interviewed by Jenifer London on a SOCAL CONNECTED video. London pointed out that reparative therapists are at odds with the broader psychological community. The video also featured Dr. Terry Gock, a past president of the APA Society for Study of LGBT Issues. Another ex-gay in the video is Aaron Bitzer. He testified that reparative therapy desexualized his attractions for men. He believes the lack of a close relationship with his father is at the root of his same-sex attractions. He said he is still attracted to some men, but the attraction is to get to know them as men and not to have sex with them. Before his reparative therapy his attraction to men was sexual.

Excerpt from Dr. Julie Hamilton’s statement on the NARTH website: “… Here is a summary of the information that was edited out of the recent daytime talk show: 1. What is this therapy and how does it work? First, we know from the research that people are not simply born homosexual. Researchers on both sides of the debate have acknowledged that, as does the American Psychological Association. It seems clear that homosexuality is a complex combination of nurture and nature. It is also clear that homosexual attractions are NOT a choice. While there are many options for help available, NARTH represents licensed, ethical therapists who practice mainstream approaches to therapy in their offices.”

A seminar called “Beyond Bisexuality: Living Between the Labels” presented by Prideworks for LGBT Youth teaches that “Sexuality is fluid.” This position on sexuality contradicts the argument that homosexuality is an innate condition, which most other LGBT organizations promote. In a quote from the World Net Daily article on the seminar PFOX president and ex-gay Greg Quinlan responded “It means that they honestly know and they’ve always known, they factually know, that sexuality is fluid and is a choice. You choose who you go to bed with. This means a lot to our organization.”

Excerpts from the Christian Medical Comment: “The Associated Press has nixed the term ‘homophobia’ from its Style Book. The online Style Book now says that ‘-phobia’, ‘an irrational, uncontrollable fear, often a form of mental illness’ should not be used ‘in political or social contexts’, including ‘homophobia’ because ‘a phobia is a psychiatric or medical term for a severe mental disorder’.”
“AP Deputy Standards Editor Dave Minthorn said that ‘Homophobia especially is just off the mark. It’s ascribing a mental disability to someone, and suggests a knowledge that we don’t have. It seems inaccurate. Instead, we would use something more neutral: anti-gay, or some such, if we had reason to believe that was the case.’ ‘We want to be precise and accurate and neutral in our phrasing,’ he said.” The source for the Christian Medical Comment was an article on the POLITICO website.

On November 28, 2012 Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of the Dr. Oz Show, let ex-gays Christopher Doyle and Rich Wyler along with NARTH leader Dr. Julie Hamilton present the case for sexual orientation change efforts. Gay representatives on the show argued against sexual orientation change efforts. Dr. Oz stated he wanted to bring the debate out in public. Not surprisingly gay organizations GLAAD, GLSEN and PFLAG issued a joint statement condemning the episode. MSNBC’s story covering the gay organizations fury can be linked here. Segments of the show can be linked here.

Excerpts from the article on World Net Daily: “A judge in California has granted a preliminary injunction preventing enforcement of California’s newest promotion of homosexuality: a proposed ban on any counseling involving sexual orientation change for minors. … U.S. District Judge William Shubb wrote in his opinion. ‘Because plaintiffs have also shown that they are likely to suffer irreparable harm in the absence of an injunction, that the balance of equities tips in their favor, and that an injunction is in the public interest, the court grants plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction.’”

Excerpts from Matt Barber’s editorial on the World Net Daily website: “In recent months, ‘progressive’ lawmakers, activist attorneys and militant homosexual pressure groups have launched a fierce campaign to ban therapeutic help for child victims of monsters like homosexual pedophile Jerry Sandusky. California has already passed such a law (SB 1172). … The Archives of Sexual Behavior determined in a 2001 study that nearly half of all ‘gay’-identified men were molested by a homosexual pedophile … Under Sandusky Laws, if children begin to experience sexual confusion – such as unwanted same-sex attractions stemming from sexual abuse, trauma or any other factor – these bans force, under penalty of law, parents and therapists to tell the children that they are now ‘gay’ or ‘transgender’ and must live with it – even if they don’t wish to live with it and are otherwise recovering from the abuse-caused sexual confusion.”

Excerpts from Gina Miller’s article on the Renew America website: “On Tuesday, the SPLC filed suit in New Jersey Superior Court claiming that JONAH’s leaders violated New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act by claiming to offer a cure for homosexuality with conversion therapy. … This is not about JONAH’s methods, however unusual they may be. Nor is it about consumers being defrauded. It is about the nationwide effort of the Left to create mainstream legitimacy for the sin of homosexuality. In doing so, they must discredit the groups that offer help out of the bondage of homosexuality. They must create an atmosphere of public and legal hostility toward those who insist homosexuality is a sin from which you can indeed be free.”
